Finally Well!

Great news!!  Thursday night our pediatrician called to see how Spencer was doing. Spencer had been doing really well. We had not suctioned any junk out of his nose, and his eating and breathing were normal. So as of Friday Spencer does not need the oxygen anymore!  We are so glad he is better and we can now start to establish a routine. Hopefully that will make everyone calmer and decrease tension here. It has been a stressful month on all five of us.  Thank you all for your prayers and support.  Until next time...

Spencer - 1st Follow-up Appointment

Greetings! Today Spencer had his first follow-up appointment with our Pediatrician. The great news is that his oxygen levels were in the high 90s breathing on his own. Yay! He does still have the sniffles, so his doctor wants him to still use the oxygen when he is sleeping. This is still often, but quite a big step! Now we don't have to lug the oxygen generator up and down the stairs. That thing is quite heavy! I can use his small canister for nap-time in the living room where his brothers are playing and use the big machine at his bed for the main nap and bedtime.  The next update will be Thursday or Friday after Dr. Frohelke calls to check up. He will decide then to use oxygen a few more days, or stop using it completely. Exciting! Thanks again for all your support.  Until next time!

Home Again!

Hello friends! What a great St. Valentine's Day gift: bringing Spencer home!  Spencer had a second room air test this morning and passed! So, we were able to bring him home with an oxygen tank. Soon after we came home the service brought a home oxygen machine.  We go in to the pediatrician on Monday and will learn how often they test to see when he can be off the oxygen.  Thank you all for your love and support. It really did help. We are all glad to be home together. We will update with a post when he can be off his oxygen tank.  Until next time...

Spencer - Day 5

0515 Good morning!  We had a pretty good night last night. Took some extra time for Spencer to fall asleep but I think it was tummy gas as they don't have probiotics to issue here and his are likely all out of his system. However the regular gas drops eventually worked and he slept fine.  They had another room air trial last night. This one ran the whole 30 minutes. Spencer's oxygen levels dipped down into the low 80s a number of times but he did self recover. The goal is to stay above 85 (out of 100) so we aren't quite there yet. He is still on 1/8 lpm oxygen.  The test was even more exciting because the fire alarm went off! It coincided with one of his bigger drops in oxygen level and so I thought it was us. I guess it was from a different floor and I also assume it ended up a false alarm or quickly dealt with because we are still here. Such excitement! Not the first place I've been where we were interrupted by the fire alarm.  Well he's falling asleep again so ma...

Spencer - Day 4: Olympic Sleep

0000 Well, today has been off to a promising start. Spencer has had his longest sleep ever. Almost 4 hours! Wow! I'm one "rested" mama. LOL. He fed alright without needing a suction this time too. He does have Crackle sounds on both sides of his lungs today. Hoping that maybe starts to clear up soon.  I'm glad he slept. I was worried he wouldn't since he was so restless and awake/uncomfortable yesterday.  I will try updating this post every few feeds, or whenever there is news.  Until next time... ----- UPDATE ----- 0515 He slept well but not quite so long the rest of the night. The nurse turned down his oxygen a bit so we shall see how that goes. Still very congested but we went overnight without a major suction - only the bulb suction when he spit up. That is a major improvement !!! Very exciting. If we can keep his oxygen lower that will be two big improvements today. Fingers crossed Until next time... ----- UPDATE ----- Well today they finally removed his hear...

Spencer - Day 3: A child of God

Well he is off to a rough start. We had a pretty good night, but his mucous is becoming very thick and there is lots of it. Thankfully the suction seems to work and as of this morning he is still eating well and making diapers.  That said, we did call our parish and asked to have him baptized. Fr. Luis came over as soon as Scott could get here and did a short form baptism. It just made Scott and I feel that much better and hopefully the extra Grace and Blessings help too.  Father encouraged us to still have the longer ceremony when Spencer is well, even though he is already baptized (with all the prayers and candle etc.). We were planning to have it this summer so that looks like it will still happen.  We shall see what the rest of the day brings.  Until next time... -----UPDATE----- Evening. Not much has changed. He is still on oxygen and has a lot of gunk. But he continues to eat well and make diapers. We are hoping the worst day is today or tomorrow.  Not muc...

Spencer - Day 2

Hello friends,     For any who don't know we checked Spencer into the hospital yesterday with RSV. Because a number of people want to be updated I thought this was the easiest way without filling inboxes with emails.       Today his symptoms have worsened some.  More mucus and more wheezing. He is still on oxygen, and has had a nebulizer treatment. He is still eating though, so we are grateful for that.       As you can note in my photo, I now sport an arm bracelet as well.  I had one of the worst migraines in recent history today (of course) and had to check into the ER for treatment. It was hard to leave him but I was almost 100% disabled and of little use to him. Thanks to the nursing staff and Scott who took care of both Spencer and I. I spent 4 hours down there, but my headache is far less severe and I am no longer sick to my stomach. Thankfully I was only given breast feeding - friendly meds.      Anyway I ...
