Over the Hill

Well, it's already another month and Duncan is over the first year hill - he's 7 months old! He loves to watch his brothers play. He also plays with his own toys quite a bit. His newest trick is sitting up. Already outgrowing his 3-6 and 6 month sized clothes. Holy moley!

In other news...and we (I) have been waiting a long time to be able to do this...we are finally able to replace our washer and dryer. They were old-ish (13 years) and had some knobs that required pliers to operate. They were the old agitator type and we have been saving up to buy some high capacity and more energy efficient models. And today's the day! I am already washing the second load. Laundry piles up in my house, and being without a washer and dryer since Saturday actually causes quite the backlog of laundry!

Here is what our laundry closet looked like before the remodel:

Washer is Pliers Operated

I had painted it green when we first moved into the house. It is a functional laundry closet, but not really too efficient. The clothes rail hangs into the shelf and so I really only use it for holding hangars, not for hanging laundry.

The shelf had to go. We decided to stack the new washer and dryer to try to be able to use one side of the laundry room for more vertical storage, and possibly a clothes rail that can hold more than just hangars.

Since I am usually spending the most time in the laundry room, I decided that I could repaint it and chose the color myself (again). I found a nice blue paint with glitter in it at Target. Yes, glitter. Laugh if you must, but even these small things can make laundry more fun!

Blue and Sparkle like the evening sky

It took me a little while to decide on a washer and dryer set. There are so many to choose from and the technology is a lot different than the last time I bought a washer and dryer set.

The salesperson at Best Buy was actually quite helpful and answered all the questions I could not answer to my satisfaction just browsing online. In fact, it totally changed my perspective and I think I was able to make a better choice than I maybe would have alone. Also, it's nice to see them in person and get a feel for the actual size and color of the appliances.

We went with a pair of LG front-loading machines. They are stack-able (and they fit) and have a pretty large capacity which was an important feature I was looking for (Laundry for 6, please?) I was also surprised that the white and colored models were not significantly different in price (or maybe that was just because of the sale). So I was able to get the graphite color instead of the white. Scott and our dads worked hard on Saturday to remove the old washer and dryer. Happily, our neighbor was in need of a set for some of their tenants. That made them easy to get rid of and saved us a haul-away fee.

Saturday afternoon mom and I painted the laundry room (finishing just in time for pizza!) and I was glad to be done early. The only thing was I could not do any laundry until today (Tuesday) and it piled up quickly!

I had purchased some carts, but in the end only one of the wide carts fit so I am looking for a narrow cart to add to the room. I have the clothes rod to put back up, and maybe the secondary drying rack. The lamp helps to see the sparkle better, and lets light in the laundry room. That room has always been hard to light.

So, in order to get this out before the next monthday. You'll have to wait on the finished laundry room until after I go buy some toggle bolts for the hanging clothes rod. :)

Until next time!!!

  1. Sounds like you made good choices for your re-do. Please don't make us wait too long to see your finished room! The kid pics are darling, as usual!

Angel or Devil?

Kids. They are too funny. I had to share this one with all of you. We went to Mass today and tried to sit inside for once. Everything was great, until Jack noticed the missal in the pew had these nice orange and yellow squares or something in the illustration on the cover. He was conviced they were dominoes, but that is a word he struggles to say. So, at an especially quiet time in the Mass he looks at me and says, "damn-yous! damn-yous!" We both had a mix of embarassment and laughter. Only out of the mouth of a 2 year old! We went to the back of the church soon after that. :)

Happy Birthday Jack

Here are some photos from Jack's 2nd birthday day, and party. He was so excited he was telling everyone happy birthday! We 'filled' his room with balloons while he was sleeping. He was so excited to wake up to balloons! Jack wanted to pose with his new favorite toy - Buzz! They are still usually only separated at nighttime (too tempting to make noise all night). Oh, and that is his 'camera' smile. He uses it whenever he sees the lens pointed at him. So cheesy! Blowing out the candles on his Spiderman cake. Yes, all the other stuff is Thomas the Train. He likes what he likes. Jack wasn't about to let Emerson go home without a hug. It was a hug, not an attack. Promise!

Easter

Easter has come and gone, but finally I have some photos uploaded! We had a nice time and enjoyed spending time with Grandma and Grandpa C, Antie and Uncle John Tressell , and Uncle Robert, Aunt Natalie, and Emerson. Jack really enjoyed hunting for eggs (for a few days he asked us to hide them again so he could find them), but was a bit disappointed when they no longer had animal cracker in them. Anyway better late than never. I'll put all the photos on Flickr . :) Painting Eggs They actually sat still for three seconds! Family Photo - Easter 2011 Until next time...
