It was an overcast morning in Roxborough. The sky threatened snow and we still needed some last minute party supplies. Dare I brave an early morning trip to Target with all four kids? A daunting task at times, but I wanted to beat any foul weather coming over the mountains. So I dared, Yes, I dared.
Breakfast prepared and eaten (yay!). Four children dressed in clean clothes! 4 pairs of shoes found! Coats and hats!! Was I using all my good luck before we even got in the van?
Time check: 8:15. Beating the grade school traffic jam! Sweet!
Roads clear. No snow yet.
Pulled into a space and parked. All the kids got out with no hassle. So far so good...
Decision time. Regular cart, or four child cart? Do I press my luck? OK, I'm feeling brave. Let the two biggest walk. Bucket in the cart, and toddler in the seat. Here we go. Oops, have to stop and return something. Well, they stayed near the cart.
"Can we look at toys?"
"No, we're just here for a few things. Party supplies and coffee creamer."
"Oh. Okay."
Keep up with me kids here we go!
Yes, all the supplies are in stock. Oh, Kids distracted by party favors in bins. They want all of them. Sorry kids. Let's get to the next aisle.
Plates. Check.
Napkins. Check
Favors (okay so I did get something). Check
Creamer. Check.
Let's roll out.
Awesome! No line at the register. Hey! Mom's feeling lucky, lets get a snack!
Last round - we are headed out the door. Count them....1,2,3,4. Great, haven't left one behind. Oh, I see someone behind us, let's stop and let her go around us.
"You have your hands full," she says, and double checks to see the bucket in the cart. "Wow, four? You're brave. I have three. You're brave."
"We wanted to beat the snow." So hard to respond to that question. But Jack saved the day.
"MOM! DOES THAT MAKE US LIKE A WOLF PACK?"
"Sure, son." The stranger bursts out laughing, as do I.
Three kids howling from Target to the car and halfway home.
I'd call that a win. AND we have a cool new nickname.
