14 Months Old

Hello friends!

It's high time I wrote again, as 14 months have already slipped by. Things have been going great with the Christensen Clan. Jack is growing like a weed, but no official numbers until next month at the check-up.

We have been getting into spring and finally getting into our backyard to fix it up. I told Scott it was uglier than nature, all wild and overgrown (in places) or dead (in other places). So this year we endeavored to make it look nice and inviting so Jack can play back there. When we have After photos we'll post both of them so you can be amazed yourself!

However, in our front yard we have started a nice tulip garden thanks to my birthday gift from Robert, Natalie, and Emerson. Not all of my tulips flowered this year, but these two varieties did:

There were actually two of the orange ones and they were beautiful. One day I took a photo of them. The next day one was missing. Not just the flower, the whole shebang. Leaves, stem, flower. Something or someone had absconded with my tulip!! While I am hoping it was an animal, I do admit to driving around our block looking in people's yards for my flower. Hope it helped whomever or whatever took it!!!

What you see on Jack's head here is a pair of Spider-Man swim trunks. He has taken an uncanny, yet apparently hereditary liking to the web-slinging super hero. He ran around and around the living room when they were on his head. He was even brave enough to step on the cat! He will now point out Spider-Man whenever he sees him. On TV, on his ball, on a DVD case, etc. Scott even bought Jack some Spider-Man pajamas. He is so excited when he wears them. I have to also add that he does not like the Symbiont Black Suit Spider-Man and refuses to point him out, or watch those cartoon episodes.

Oh the humanity! All this hard work makes Jack and I tired. This is a rare shot of Jack lying down and holding still while being in the awake state. I just wanted it on the record so people can have proof that it can happen. He exhausts Grandma and Grandpa whenever we leave him there. Run run run run run run run. Eat. Run run run run run run poop run. This is our life. Hey, it's good exercise, right?

Our last shot is of Jack and Scott sharing a cookie. Or having some sort of rock-paper-scissors cookie divvying event. It was a cute shot so I grabbed it. Plus it's a good lead in to the Jack Accomplishment List, at the end so if you want you can just move on with the next post. :)

  • Starting to eat real food. I think he will wean himself off baby food. Sometimes he'll eat it, sometimes he won't.
  • Feeds himself fairly well with a spoon, or his hands.
  • Says "Ma Ma MaMAMAMAMAM" and "Dadadad" and "Papa". Usually for myself, or Scott, or one of his grandpas. Sometimes, for anyone who seems they would fit the description. :)
  • Stacks blocks and puts pieces through shaped holes.
  • Climbs on anything if you are not careful. Chairs, coffee tables, dishwashers, etc.
  • Sits forwards in the car. He loves this, but gets really frustrated when it makes him sleepy.
  • Knows animal sounds: Jack, what does a dog say? "woof woof". Jack, what does a lion/dragon/bear say? "rrrrr" If he doesn't know, it says "woof woof"
  • Has six teeth! And bites!!

I remember today he was standing next to Seamus and sneezed. Seamus jumped into the air, startled. Jack thought it was hilarious and chased him around laughing. We really do have patient cats.

So that about wraps it up for our month-o-fun. Hopefully we'll have photos of our yard before June has gone into the past. We are about halfway there.

Have a super day!

Cut Out the Middle Man

I t was snack time at the Christensen house and I decided to use up some leftover cream cheese and salsa and chips (just lying around -I promise!!) Jack, as it turns out is new to the world of dipping. I used some of his crunchies and dipped it in the salsa cheese mix. He seemed to enjoy the flavor of it. I went into the kitchen to fix us both a drink and when I came back out I realized that Jack decided he'd had enough of the middle man and went right into dipping with the tools God gave him! I laughed so hard I had to share it with you! No One's Around to Catch Me... E xcep t Mom and her camera... I guess he thought it was good bean dip! He ate the rest of the bowl!!

7 Weeks Old!

All Dressed Up and Nowhere to Go! Smile for Daddy! Baby, You Can Drive My Car Well, Little Jack is almost 8 weeks old now.  He has been a busy boy, and we are starting to get into a more regular routine. I think it is good for all involved.  We usually get up about when Daddy does at 5:00.  Sometimes we get another nap after that first meal, but sometimes we don't. And that's OK.   Our new nighttime routine involves bath-time at 7:00 (on bath days) so that he can eat and drift off to sleep and maybe give Mom and Dad an hour before their 9:00 bedtime.   Jack can still usually go 4 hours at night. Sometimes we are unlucky and he gets up every 2 hours.  This is rare now.  Sometimes we are very lucky and  he'll sleep 6 to 8 hours.  Not too often, but it is a taste of things to come.  He is getting really good at holding his head up.  I think he gets bored on some days because you cannot just leave him in his bouncy seat - he cries and cries.  He went into the doctor's last...

Second First: First day of School!

Well, the day finally came. It felt like we waited a long time, but the day arrived quickly nonetheless. The first day of school! Maybe it seemed to come so soon since the kids start school when they are 2 1/2 or 3 now. Guess there's more to learn than when I was a kid, LOL. It was more stressful than I thought to select a school. We visited a few local(ish) schools and finally settled on Holy Cross Lutheran Early Learning Center . It's only 15 minutes away, which is pretty close for where we live. We liked this preschool mainly because of the small size of the classes. And when we took Jack for a tour he seemed the most comfortable. So I guess in the end the choice was pretty simple - I just over worry about things most of the time. So he goes Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9:00 - 12:00. It's an adjustment for all of us, but so far so good. Ready to Leave  That was Jack all ready to go on the first day. Eventually he'll grow into that backpack. B...
