Five Months!

Pouty Jack

I can't believe Jack will be five months old this weekend! My how time flies by.

Jack has come a long way since March. First off, he has more hair! A couple of them are really long and stick up like he's a "Who" from Dr. Seuss.

Jack definitely has different cries now - when he's upset or lonely, when he's tired, and when he's hungry, or if he's surprised or hurt. He also talks a lot (a lot) and can recognize his grandparents on the phone and on Skype. The phone confuses him though - voice but no face!

He's still not really a napper but we appreciate the long night's sleep we get. And he's starting to take to the bottle finally! He can play for a while on his front, or his back, and he can sit in his chair for a long time too. He likes his toys and I think he is developing favorites.

He's the little scientist now. He shakes his toys and then drops them on the floor. I have read it is to see what happens and he starts to learn that gravity works. Looking at it this way makes picking the same toy up every three minutes far less tedious! It's all in the name of Science!

I think we may eventually switch to size 2 diapers. Not sure when, probably sometime this month. He is thin in the waist so size 2 seem really loose on him when I try them out! I'm surprised he's been in size 1 diapers for this long.

Oh, and the bath. Holy Moley! He does not sit still! He tries to stand up during the bath, and kicks his feet. We thought he wanted some of the toys so we handed them to him, but eventually we discovered he was fascinated with the water coming out of the faucet and wanted to touch that. (Like I said, the little scientist). So that's good for a laugh each time. So squirmy!

He can occupy himself for short bits at play so I can get a bit more done around the house. Sometimes I can fold laundry, or clean the kitchen, or work on my cards.

Speaking of cards, I hope to open in September on Etsy. In my inventory currently are bookmarks, onesies, and cards. Well, as many cards as I can make between now and then. My first go at a tax license made me doubt anyone read my application. The only thing correct on it was my name. How it got to me with the incorrect street address (Wristside Circle), incorrect county, and incorrect tax districts is way beyond my comprehension. But the lady I called yesterday was really nice and said she'd send out one that was corrected. I have only a small inventory to date as I want to see what may sell before I make hundreds of something! Wish me luck!!!

Cut Out the Middle Man

I t was snack time at the Christensen house and I decided to use up some leftover cream cheese and salsa and chips (just lying around -I promise!!) Jack, as it turns out is new to the world of dipping. I used some of his crunchies and dipped it in the salsa cheese mix. He seemed to enjoy the flavor of it. I went into the kitchen to fix us both a drink and when I came back out I realized that Jack decided he'd had enough of the middle man and went right into dipping with the tools God gave him! I laughed so hard I had to share it with you! No One's Around to Catch Me... E xcep t Mom and her camera... I guess he thought it was good bean dip! He ate the rest of the bowl!!

7 Weeks Old!

All Dressed Up and Nowhere to Go! Smile for Daddy! Baby, You Can Drive My Car Well, Little Jack is almost 8 weeks old now.  He has been a busy boy, and we are starting to get into a more regular routine. I think it is good for all involved.  We usually get up about when Daddy does at 5:00.  Sometimes we get another nap after that first meal, but sometimes we don't. And that's OK.   Our new nighttime routine involves bath-time at 7:00 (on bath days) so that he can eat and drift off to sleep and maybe give Mom and Dad an hour before their 9:00 bedtime.   Jack can still usually go 4 hours at night. Sometimes we are unlucky and he gets up every 2 hours.  This is rare now.  Sometimes we are very lucky and  he'll sleep 6 to 8 hours.  Not too often, but it is a taste of things to come.  He is getting really good at holding his head up.  I think he gets bored on some days because you cannot just leave him in his bouncy seat - he cries and cries.  He went into the doctor's last...

Second First: First day of School!

Well, the day finally came. It felt like we waited a long time, but the day arrived quickly nonetheless. The first day of school! Maybe it seemed to come so soon since the kids start school when they are 2 1/2 or 3 now. Guess there's more to learn than when I was a kid, LOL. It was more stressful than I thought to select a school. We visited a few local(ish) schools and finally settled on Holy Cross Lutheran Early Learning Center . It's only 15 minutes away, which is pretty close for where we live. We liked this preschool mainly because of the small size of the classes. And when we took Jack for a tour he seemed the most comfortable. So I guess in the end the choice was pretty simple - I just over worry about things most of the time. So he goes Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9:00 - 12:00. It's an adjustment for all of us, but so far so good. Ready to Leave  That was Jack all ready to go on the first day. Eventually he'll grow into that backpack. B...
