7 Weeks Old!

All Dressed Up and Nowhere to Go!

Smile for Daddy!

Baby, You Can Drive My Car

Well, Little Jack is almost 8 weeks old now.  He has been a busy boy, and we are starting to get into a more regular routine. I think it is good for all involved.

We usually get up about when Daddy does at 5:00.  Sometimes we get another nap after that first meal, but sometimes we don't. And that's OK.   Our new nighttime routine involves bath-time at 7:00 (on bath days) so that he can eat and drift off to sleep and maybe give Mom and Dad an hour before their 9:00 bedtime.

Jack can still usually go 4 hours at night. Sometimes we are unlucky and he gets up every 2 hours.  This is rare now.  Sometimes we are very lucky and  he'll sleep 6 to 8 hours.  Not too often, but it is a taste of things to come.

He is getting really good at holding his head up.  I think he gets bored on some days because you cannot just leave him in his bouncy seat - he cries and cries.  He went into the doctor's last week and was given the colic diagnosis, but we have tried some tricks to stop that madness. One is the mandatory nap in the afternoon. He does not sleep well during the day, so we moved the play yard into his nursery, where there are blackout curtains, and play some lullaby music and he takes a nap from 1:00-3:00 or whenever he wakes up. It has helped a lot to keep him from being "colicky" in the evenings.

He is learning to use a bottle, but that seems to be tough going.  He is OK if he's not starving when you start out. And he will take the bottle at church. Go figure. (Yeah God!)  But that will come with time and practice.

We are following his progress with the book Your Baby's First Year: Week by Week and it is great because it gives you games and toys and tells you about what he should be doing. (Except they always use "she" in the book, so if I read it to Scott I end up saying "she").  He smiles a lot now, and knows how to control his hands better.  He grabs onto Mommy (not her hair anymore), or swats at things.  He also can follow sounds and objects sometimes. And he's getting better at tummy time.

Well, there are some cute pictures, and I'm going to try to get more onto Flickr. I will post when those are up.

Angel or Devil?

Kids. They are too funny. I had to share this one with all of you. We went to Mass today and tried to sit inside for once. Everything was great, until Jack noticed the missal in the pew had these nice orange and yellow squares or something in the illustration on the cover. He was conviced they were dominoes, but that is a word he struggles to say. So, at an especially quiet time in the Mass he looks at me and says, "damn-yous! damn-yous!" We both had a mix of embarassment and laughter. Only out of the mouth of a 2 year old! We went to the back of the church soon after that. :)

Happy Birthday Jack

Here are some photos from Jack's 2nd birthday day, and party. He was so excited he was telling everyone happy birthday! We 'filled' his room with balloons while he was sleeping. He was so excited to wake up to balloons! Jack wanted to pose with his new favorite toy - Buzz! They are still usually only separated at nighttime (too tempting to make noise all night). Oh, and that is his 'camera' smile. He uses it whenever he sees the lens pointed at him. So cheesy! Blowing out the candles on his Spiderman cake. Yes, all the other stuff is Thomas the Train. He likes what he likes. Jack wasn't about to let Emerson go home without a hug. It was a hug, not an attack. Promise!

Easter

Easter has come and gone, but finally I have some photos uploaded! We had a nice time and enjoyed spending time with Grandma and Grandpa C, Antie and Uncle John Tressell , and Uncle Robert, Aunt Natalie, and Emerson. Jack really enjoyed hunting for eggs (for a few days he asked us to hide them again so he could find them), but was a bit disappointed when they no longer had animal cracker in them. Anyway better late than never. I'll put all the photos on Flickr . :) Painting Eggs They actually sat still for three seconds! Family Photo - Easter 2011 Until next time...
