You Don't Know Jack...Until Now!

Welcome to the Family Little Jack!! Here are some of the first pictures of our son John Preston Christensen We went into the hospital at 7:30 Sunday night because I was having lots of contractions and I thought maybe my water broke (first timer, boy was I wrong). Either way I was in labor and got to stay at the hospital rather than being sent back home to wait it out longer. It was going OK at first until I got my magical epidural (so awesome ) at about 2:00 a.m. and then my contractions slowed down. They gave me some meds to help me out but it still took me another 12 hours or so to be ready for the big finale. I had a migraine for some of those 12 hours but thankfully, it went away before the delivery process. Born on March 23, 2009 at 4:20 p.m. Weight: 6 lb 5 oz Height: 19.5 inches So far Jack has been doing pretty well in his new environment. Mom is sore, but recovering nicely. They are both learning how to feed and it gets easier and less painful each time. :) Jack had good APGAR ...

Closer to Finished

Well, this has been a good week.  Went back to the doctor's of Friday and  all was well.  My belly did grow 1 cm so Shrimpy is still gaining weight.  We also did fetal monitoring and his heart-rate and response to some mild contractions was perfect too. (So they say, I did not feel those contractions).  My contractions are working as I continue to dilate and efface. More each week!  The end is near! I finally found the energy to make curtains for the nursery.  They are yellow with lots of small squares in blues and reds and greens.  The best part is they block out the hot sun and the cold winds in the summer and winter, as well as the sun that beats through the west window as it sets.   You can see the difference in glare even with the window shade between the two photos.  So, the nursery is pretty much done, except for eventually moving furniture in there, and some small stuff like a humidifier.  I may make some stuffed letters for one wall with his initials.  On the other hand, I...

Week 37 Ultrasound News

Greetings one and all!  Well, we have had quite a few more ultrasounds than expected.   I was measuring small again on Friday so we scheduled yesterday's ultrasound.  As it turns out, at the 32 week ultrasound (when I first measured small) Shrimpy was in the 30th percentile by weight. At this one he had gone down to the 20th percentile (he is near-on 6 pounds even according to the doctor).  Not shrank so much as gained less weight than expected.   Other than his size, his heartbeat is healthy, I have enough amniotic fluid,  he is practicing breathing, moving around, and the umbilical cord Doppler came out normal too.   The doctor said 20th percentile was still considered healthy, especially for my own size and shape, but he should not fall below the 10th percentile, as that causes problems.  She also said she did not feel comfortable going past my due date, either for me or for baby if he stays on the small side.  So I have another ultrasound scheduled for the 24th to see if he...

Week 36

So far things are going OK. We went to the doctor's today for the first of our every week visits. Despite the fact that I have been counting my "weeks" by Wednesdays, due to some uncertainty based on my cycle and his most recent ultrasound measurements, she said any time after Sunday he would be considered "full term" and everything would be A-OK for launch.  My belly was measuring on the borderline of being small yet again, so I am back for another ultrasound on Tuesday to make sure I have enough amniotic fluid. I asked what we had to do if it was not enough, and she said, "drink lots more fluid, and have ultrasounds once or twice a week". Easy enough. Plus it would be safe to deliver him at any time so no worries.   I am starting to get ready for the big event.  My hips and pelvis are sore a lot of the time, and I have been getting some cramps - not a really tight belly like a true contraction, but a mild tightening and generally uncomfortable feelin...
